Royal Society Summer Exhibition

The NAME PG team have the privilege of being selected as one of 15 exhibitors at this year’s Royal Society Summer Exhibition. Our stall, Atomic Scale Engineering, will bring together aspects of ion implantation and characterisation through a journey exploring what it’s like to be an ion down a column, to understanding how an atomic force microscope works. The team is excited to bring together volunteers and exhibits that have been built at our core institutions.

Through the exhibit we aim to portray our core messages

  • Part of the solution to solve big societal challenges – from increasing computing power to energy harnessing – is the need to create new materials.
  • Engineering on the small scale can open up new material possibilities with precision and accuracy by making materials very thin or having control over where the atoms are placed.
  • This is because when we get to single atom scale, materials start to behave differently and we can identify how to exploit these behaviour

The hard work really starts now with the stand being made and curated by our team. Check out our X account for updates! The royal society summer exhibit will run form 2-7th July 2024.
